On Friday, the Polish women’s volleyball team seized the opportunity to advance to the medal zone of this year’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL). The task was daunting: to overcome the formidable Turkish team in the quarterfinals. Despite the odds, the Poles emerged victorious in an electrifying match, winning 3-2 (20:25, 25:22, 25:20, 19:25, 15:11).

A Rollercoaster of Emotions

The day was already filled with excitement for Polish volleyball fans, as the men’s team had earlier defeated Argentina 3-0 in the VNL. The women’s team, facing a resilient Turkish squad hampered by injuries, began the match with Martyna Łukasik and Magdalena Stysiak leading the charge. Despite a strong start, the Poles lost the first set 20:25 but quickly regrouped to win the next two sets with stellar plays from Łukasik, Stysiak, and Korneluk.

Overcoming Setbacks

The fourth set saw the Turkish team clawing back into the game, capitalizing on early Polish errors and dominant performances from Vargas and Karakurt. Despite a spirited fight, Poland conceded the set 19:25, pushing the match into a decisive fifth set. The Poles started the final set on the back foot but quickly turned the tide with strategic blocks from Korneluk and resilient attacks, ultimately clinching the set 15:11 and securing their place in the VNL semifinals.
