Grand Finale of PGE Ekstraliga 2024 Set for Lublin: Who Will Take Home the Trophy?

Grand Finale of PGE Ekstraliga 2024 Set for Lublin: Who Will Take Home the Trophy?

The highly anticipated finale of the 2024 PGE Ekstraliga is fast approaching, with fans gearing up for an exciting event in Lublin. This year’s finale promises not only thrilling races but also a grand award ceremony, building on the success of last year’s spectacular podium debut in Wrocław. The passing trophy, awarded annually to the Polish Team Speedway Champions, will once again be up for grabs.

The Prestigious Passing Trophy

Since 2018, the Polish Champions have been presented with a prestigious 65 cm tall and 7.5 kg trophy. After the final heat of the championship-deciding match, the winning team’s name and victory date are engraved onto the base of the trophy. The team retains the original for 12 months, after which a replica is kept as a memento, and the original is passed on to the next year’s champions. However, if a team secures the title three years in a row, they get to keep the trophy permanently.

FOGO Unia Leszno became the first team to claim the trophy permanently, after dominating from 2017 to 2019. Although they won again in 2020, their streak was broken by Betard Sparta Wrocław in 2021. In 2022 and 2023, the title went to ORLEN OIL Motor Lublin. Should Lublin triumph again this year, the trophy will remain in their possession, and a new passing trophy will be introduced for future seasons.

A Grand Podium for the Ceremony

One of the highlights of this year’s final will be the impressive podium, similar to the one that made its debut in Wrocław last year. This 14-meter-long structure, featuring designated spaces for both the winning and runner-up teams, will provide a grand stage for the medal ceremony. Over four meters tall, the podium ensures fans from all sides of the stadium at Aleje Zygmuntowskie will have a clear view of their champions. Yet, its design won’t obstruct views of the races, as it will only be assembled after the 15th heat.

In addition to the passing trophy, the winners will receive gold, silver, or bronze medals, along with commemorative sashes. The medals, awarded to no more than 10 riders from each team, along with the coach or manager, are part of a long-standing tradition in Polish speedway.

Upcoming Final Matches

Before the grand final ceremony, fans have two thrilling matchups to look forward to. First, KS APATOR Toruń will take on eBUT.PL STAL Gorzów on October 5 at 16:00. The first leg of this semifinal ended 46:43 in favor of Toruń, so the tie is finely balanced going into the second leg. This match will be broadcast live on Eleven Sports 1.

Later that evening, ORLEN OIL Motor Lublin will face Betard Sparta Wrocław at 19:15, with Lublin holding a narrow 47:43 lead from the first leg. Fans can catch this decisive match live on CANAL+ Sport and online via CANAL+.

Both semifinals promise to deliver edge-of-your-seat action, setting the stage for the crowning of the 2024 PGE Ekstraliga champions in Lublin. Fans are eager to see whether Lublin will make history with their third consecutive title, or if a new team will emerge victorious.
