Filip Gustavsson Joins Elite Group of NHL Goal-Scoring Goalies [video]

NHL Playoffs Update: New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning Secure Vital Wins

Filip Gustavsson made NHL history by becoming the 15th goalie to score a goal during a game, contributing to Minnesota Wild’s 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues. With the Blues pulling their goalie late in the game, Gustavsson took advantage, sending the puck across the ice and into the empty net. This rare feat marks only the 10th time in NHL history that a goaltender has personally scored, with the other eight instances resulting from the goalie being the last player to touch the puck before an own-goal.

A Memorable Performance for Gustavsson

In addition to his historic goal, the 26-year-old Swedish goaltender also recorded 27 saves, helping secure a crucial win for the Wild. Gustavsson’s achievement not only made headlines but added to his growing reputation as a standout performer in the league. This marked Minnesota’s third win in five games, keeping them competitive early in the season.

Florida Panthers Keep Rolling; Blue Jackets Honor Johnny Gaudreau

In other NHL action, the Florida Panthers, last season’s champions, clinched a 4-3 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets, bringing their record to 3-2. Before the game, the Blue Jackets honored the late Johnny Gaudreau, who tragically passed away in August. As a tribute, the team skated without a left-winger, Gaudreau’s position, and paused for 13 seconds—the number he wore on his jersey—while both teams remained still on the ice.
