Polish Women’s Relay Team Clinches Bronze at European Swimming Championships

Gretchen Walsh Shatters World Record in 100m Butterfly

The Polish women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team secured a bronze medal at the European Swimming Championships in Belgrade. The team, consisting of Kornelia Fiedkiewicz, Zuzanna Famulok, Wiktoria Guść, and Aleksandra Polańska, delivered an outstanding performance, finishing behind Hungary and Denmark.

Race Breakdown

The race saw fierce competition with the Hungarian team clinching gold with a time of 3:36.77. Denmark followed closely, just 1.71 seconds behind, while Poland finished 4.24 seconds after the winners. Kornelia Fiedkiewicz started strong, placing the team in third position during the first leg. Although Zuzanna Famulok momentarily lost a position, the team remained close to Israel. Wiktoria Guść regained third place, which was solidified by Aleksandra Polańska in the final leg.

Unexpected Triumph

Both Zuzanna Famulok and Wiktoria Guść had earlier competed in the semifinals of the 200m freestyle but did not advance to the finals. Despite this, they rallied for a remarkable relay performance. Their bronze medal win was unexpected, especially considering they had only the seventh-best time in the preliminaries.

Other Polish Performances

On the same day, Poland had other hopefuls in the finals. Notably, Ksawery Masiuk finished fifth in the 200m backstroke. However, the bronze in the women’s relay was the only medal for Poland that day, highlighting the team’s extraordinary effort and achievement.
